Please explain why you're considering an idea to split the Chevy Chase ANC between two wards? Why isn't this idea being brought to the community first?
Troy Kravitz
15:06
Mary: the ANC is currently split between two Wards.
Mary Rowse
15:20
Yes, I'm aware of that.
Mary Rowse
15:56
Jerry, are you saying the impetus is coming from Ward 4? If so, who in that ward is doing this?
Mary Rowse
17:06
Why is this an issue?
Andrea Rosen
17:17
Is there any population impetus for assigning the Ward 4 Chevy Chase neighborhoods to a Ward 4 aNC?
Mary Rowse
18:06
The Chevy Chase neighborhood is geographically west of the park. It should remain in one ANC, not split between two.
Andrea Rosen
36:51
Is it your job to redraw boundaries to bring in institutions?
Andrea Rosen
44:50
Troy Kravitz’s statement makes sense. Which is why Chevy Chase Ward 4 belongs in ANC 3G—because Connecticut Ave. is still a focal point for most residents in those neighborhoods.
Andrea Rosen
52:48
But lived experience is that both Chevy Chase wards are in Ward 3. Unfortunately, we failed to reconnect the two parts of Chevy Chase in Ward 3 in the recent redistricting effort, due to the loss of population that Ward 4 would suffer.
Andrea Rosen
56:10
The ANC passed a resolution to restore both parts of Chevy Chase into Ward 3.
Andrea Rosen
57:16
YES

Which is why if there’s no population imperative to redraw the ANC boundaries, it shouldn’t be done.

A big question is whether you can recommend that there should be an increase in the number of ANCs in Ward 3; so that individual "corridors" that share interests can be represented. Can we learn more about whst is going on in other Wards---in terms of their redistricting efforts?

Hi Katherine, information on other wards’ task forces is here: https://www.elissasilverman.com/redistricting

The population density of neighborhoods should matter in terms of the number of SMDs in an ANC.

Thank you and good-night!
